Here's to Great Women...

That semester didn’t go well, hence a not-too-good result. I was so sad, but wanted to hide it when she dragged me out of class and in her exact words, said, “Let's go and eat your pain away!”, and that's exactly what we did. So there we sat, with food in front of me (sadly, my poison), she listening to me rant and telling me sorry at intervals, and then finally laughing at me at some point and saying, “you know it’s not my fault, right?” Then we all laughed it over, and it weirdly began to hurt less.
I always joke that she taught me every bad thing I know, but she never fails to add why I should not do them, and has a story for everybody who tried it. There was this one time, I needed emergency cash in school and couldn’t ask my parents because I didn’t tell them beforehand what I was going to need the cash for, and she said send me the account number. I turned wide-eyed at her as if saying you don’t have to this, well, of course, I wanted her to do it!. After that day, I never looked at her the same way.
She is my greatest confidant, we have deep conversations until so late at night about what the future holds, what scares us, and how to overcome them. “As for your spiritual life, we can work on that together,” she said. She has been making do on that promise, and is a constant reminder that Christianity is not as hard as you think.
Then my roommate for three years now, who is training herself through school, might I add, I’ve seen her work endlessly while combining different menial jobs and school. She’s a whole lot older than me, by the way, but also listens to my advice so keenly whilst making me feel like I’m the wisest person she knows, and I know that’s a friendship I’d like to keep for life!
Of course, there’s my elder sister who I pray every day I’m able to become half the woman she is (minus the soft heart though lol), and I could go on and on…. Wait, did I mention they’re all different people? Of course! I mean, we don’t want perfect people walking around, do we? Lol. Now, this may be me showing off the amazing women I have in my life but also, I recently read a book and I finally found a definition for what I had been doing, when the author said: “this for me, began a habit that has sustained me for life, keeping a close and high spirited council of girlfriends- a safe harbor of female wisdom”.
So here’s to great women;
May we know them;
May we be them;
May we raise them. HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY!
